Let's Find Larry!

You ever run into someone you haven't seen in a while? What do you usually do in a situation like that? Do you awkwardly try to avoid them or do you go up and say hi? Let's Find Larry is a game that'll make you think twice before you run up to talk to that friend you haven't seen in years. Developed by Germfood (makers of Night of the Consumers) Let's Find Larry is a Where is Waldo inspired horror game all about your high school pal, Larry.

Finally, some grass to touch!

The game opens with a catchy theme song that I spent a minute just listening to before heading to the tutorial.

After the tutorial, you meet up with Larry and through the game you're tasked with finding Larry again and again in different stages. Just zoom in with your magnifying glass and click when you find him! Larry's happy to see you at first but after a while he's getting weirded out by how good you are at finding him...

We pretty quickly began to break away from the simple Waldo format and changes things up here and there. Larry begins to actively hide from you and you'll have to ignore the crowds to instead search in bathroom stalls, buildings, cars, and trashcans to find this man.

Hey, Larry! :D

As you play more and more, your magnifying glass seems to show you glimpses of past murders!

The climax of the game starts when a shady group of hooded men want you to track down and shoot Larry with a sniper rifle to take him down.

After you take the shot, he falls off a building and its revealed that he was actually an infamous serial killer named Willy Mack. The group of hooded men try to take him down, but Larry manages to escape. The game ends in first person chase with Larry now tracking you down! A new report reveals that he's killed you and has managed to avoid capture by the police.

Like with Night of the Consumers, the art style in this game is uniquely creepy. It’s this cartoony grossness and exaggeration of character faces that make a lot of moments in this game both goofy and scary. Sometimes I would just take a moment in the game to just look at all the different people through the magnifying glass!

While this game was pretty short (it took me about 30 mins on my first try) it’s pretty enjoyable for what it is. Taking a classic "find this guy" type of game and using it to tell a simple but interesting scary story is a very nice concept that I thought was well executed. I also enjoyed that the game messed with your expectations! There was one level where Larry was hiding in a building instead of just being in the crowds like normal and I'm not ashamed to admit it took me a loooooooooooooong time to find him. The sudden switch from a magnifying glass to a sniper scope was so jarring and darkly funny. I think it's a must play if you enjoyed other games made by Germfood or if you're just looking for something a little spooky to play.
